On Wednesday 18th of March, Rebecca and I headed over to Islington after work to go and see Hobbie Stuart perform at The Garage.
For those of you who don’t know, Hobbie Stuart is a singer/songwriter who I found out about through YouTube. His videos are predominantly him singing covers or even some of his own songs, and I truly do think he’s great. I’ve been following him for a couple of years now, and randomly stumbled into him on YouTube again when talking to Reb one evening last week about singers on YouTube. After showing her a few videos, Reb and I just wondered what he was up to and if he had any upcoming gigs and by chance, there was one the following Wednesday (18th) in London so we got our tickets that night and looked forward to the following week.

Prior to Hobbie’s performance, Ez Stone performed. I had never heard of Ez prior to that night, but he had a real grit to his voice and had a Ben Howard sort-of vibe going on. His performance was absolutely stunning and I would highly recommend checking him out.
Over his performance, Hobbie sang some of the covers he had released on YouTube as well as some of his own songs like July Rain and Put A Movie On but also had sang 2 ‘unreleased’ songs. In particular, I really enjoyed his song, Sexy When You’re Mad, and found myself singing along despite only hearing it that night!
In amongst the crowd were YouTubers Alfie Deyes and friend, Chai Cameron. Given that the crowd were young girls who seemed to be avid YouTube followers, it was no surprise to eventually see Alfie get swarmed by some girls over the course of the evening! Poor lad!

After his performance, Hobbie did give the crowd an opportunity for a Meet & Greet off stage and despite him being ill, he really did stick out chatting to (and getting photos with!) every single person who had waited to see him.

Despite being some of the older girls in the audience (no shame!), I really enjoyed my night listening to some great music and finally seeing Hobbie Stuart live. I would definitely recommend checking out his, and Ez Stone‘s, YouTube channels for more of their music and maybe even getting yourself to a gig!
