Cinderella: The Exhibition

After work on Thursday night, I quickly headed to Leicester Square Gardens for the Cinderella Swarovski Exhibition. I heard about the exhibit through the radio and various other social media platforms but it was only when I saw the advert on Thursday morning on the A4 that I realised Friday was the last night so I was determined to go that evening!

The exhibition is free but I would advise you get there as early as possible to avoid any disappointment. I arrived at 7:30 and was on of the last people to actually enter the exhibit just after 8 o’clock.

Having visited the website (to find out opening/closing times etc.), I had seen that the exhibit would display the props and dresses but I had no idea how informative or beautiful it was going to be!

The exhibition is truly a journey through Cinderella, from Cinderella’s heritage back in 1950 for the Disney animation debut, all the way through to the current film today, 65 years later.

Fact: In the 2015 Cinderella, all of Lady Tremaine’s outfits are green to illustrate the Stepmother’s jealousy towards Ella.

Fact: The iconic slippers are made from 1kg of Swarovski crystal, took 150 hours and 6 versions before the final model was decided.

I know I’m posting this on the last day of the exhibition (10th of April, 2015), but I would highly recommend going if you are in the area today. Failing that, I hope you can live vicariously through the photos I’ve taken and also through the film itself!

Within the exhibition, each section of the exhibit is manned by a member of staff who will give you an insight into what you see around you. All the staff within the exhibit were very enthusiastic and informative, despite my group being one of the last of the day, and it shows through that they are genuinely passionate and interested in the film and the exhibition itself.

In fact, I must say that all staff at the exhibition- from the staff inside the exhibition, to the security outside, were so helpful and friendly.

The exhibition speaks for itself, it’s absolutely breathtaking. But that, coupled with the excellent staff, truly complete what can only be described as an insight into the fairytale experience!
